RON'S GREATEST KANSAS
ADVENTURE TOUR OF ALL TIME
November 14, 2008
The tour started at Dover with breakfast finished off by some coconut cream pie.
Next we drove over to Echo Cliff, the cliff really echos.
Pillsbury Crossing was next, this is where the wagon trains crossed the stream on there way west. There is a large limestone slab that you can drive across the stream.
Stone fences around Alma, built in the late 1800's after the abolishion of the open range. The barb wire industry took off about this time, much easier than building stone fences.
Manhattan overlook just south of Manhattan on highway 177.
Tallgrass Farmstead on the way from Manhattan to Council Grove included one of the largest barns in Kansas and a house.
Council Grove had several things, an indian statue at Neosho Crossing, Madonna of the Trail, Hermits Cave and the Old Oak Post Office. Ron & Sharon donated for the building of the statue so there is a brick with there name laid in the red surrounding bricks.
Cottonwood Falls had a great steak place to eat. There was a mill down by the stream that is no longer there. And last was the arrow head museum.
This was a bridge crossing over a railroad track near Alta Vista.
